About Heart iQ
A relational practice for people who want to feel more, connect more honestly, and live from the heart.
Heart iQ is the body of relational work created by Christian Pankhurst, developed over more than two decades of live group facilitation. Its home is New Eden, the retreat centre he established in the Netherlands in 2015. This page introduces the work and its founder, along with the place it calls home.
What is Heart iQ?
Heart iQ is not a method, and it isn't therapy or another round of self-improvement.
It's a living map of four directions of capacity, four ways your system opens or closes in every moment of your life. When you learn to expand in all four, everything changes.

Up, Source
Your capacity to feel connected to something larger, to be held by life, to feel the awe and wonder of existence, even when things fall apart.
Down, Body
Your capacity to feel what's happening inside, sensations, feelings, thoughts. Your connection to the ground, to embodiment, to the earth beneath you.
In, Receive
Your capacity to let love in from others, to be open enough to receive connection, intimacy, and care without shutting down or pushing away.
Out, Express
Your capacity to be authentic, to share all of who you are without holding back, managing, or shape-shifting. To feel safe being true to your own essence.
When any of these four directions is shut down, we compensate, we override, we numb, we perform, we withdraw. Heart iQ trains you to open in all four, so you can stay present in the full range of being human.
That is the short answer. The fullest way to understand the work is to experience it: the group practice at the centre of every retreat and training is where the four directions stop being a map and become something you can feel.

About the Founder
Christian Hayes-Pankhurst is the founder of Heart iQ and the creator of Heart iQ Circle Work. He established New Eden (formerly known as the Heart iQ Sanctuary) in 2015 as the retreat centre in the Netherlands, a place dedicated to the practice of deep relational work, self-discovery, and collective transformation.
His approach integrates Eastern and Western traditions with group dynamics, somatic practices, and embodiment. Over two decades, he has developed a body of work that bridges ancient wisdom with the lived reality of modern relationships and emotional life.
His work is grounded in the belief that our capacity to love, connect, and live fully is not something we need to learn. It is something we need to remember.
Christian leads retreats internationally, including Accelerated Awakening and Love Is What We Came Here For. His teaching style is direct, warm, and deeply relational, rooted in showing up rather than showing off.
“Christian Pankhurst is a profound source of wisdom and depth.”
- Neale Donald Walsch
The Story Behind the Work
Christian's route into this work was indirect. He qualified as a chiropractor and opened a practice in 2002, and within a year he began to suspect that for many of his patients, physical pain was the visible edge of an emotional life that had nowhere to go. So he ran an experiment. Instead of their regular adjustments, he invited a group of patients to a series of evening workshops on connecting to their emotional and energetic bodies, and asked them to track their symptoms. What he saw changed the direction of his career. He closed the clinic and sold what he owned, then travelled in search of the best group facilitators he could find.
The years that followed were an apprenticeship across Europe, Australia, and the United States. He spent a year as a protégé of Neale Donald Walsch, the author of Conversations with God, and he was later mentored in circle work by Tej Steiner. Everything he learned was tested immediately in his own live seminars, and out of that testing a distinct body of work began to form, the practice now known as Heart iQ. More than two decades and over 20,000 hours of facilitation later, it spans live retreats and online programmes, together with a professional training academy.
In 2009 he won Britain's Next Top Coach, a public competition whose final round asked each coach to film a complete ten-minute session in a single take and put it to an open vote. More than the title itself, the win restored his conviction that people wanted this work, and that a life could be built around it.
That conviction became a book. Insights to Intimacy: Why Relationships Fail & How to Make Them Work, an Amazon bestseller endorsed by Neale Donald Walsch, distils thousands of hours of client sessions into a practical account of why relationships break down and what actually repairs them. You can read about the book and its companion video course on the Insights to Intimacy page.
The professional side grew alongside it. After years of requests from coaches and therapists, the Heart iQ Academy opened in 2011, and certified practitioners now work in more than twenty-five countries. In 2015 Christian established New Eden, the retreat centre in the Netherlands described below, as the work's permanent home. He continues to teach internationally, including at Ängsbacka in Sweden, and has spoken about leading from the heart on The Embodiment Podcast.
New Eden
The Sanctuary sits on over 50 acres of forest and fields in the Netherlands, about 90 minutes from Amsterdam, and the silence out here is part of what the place offers. It was purpose-built as a retreat centre for transformational work, and it continues to serve as the physical home of Heart iQ.
This is not a hotel or a conference venue. The practice becomes the ground you walk on here, and the land, the architecture, and the rhythm of the day all support going deeper.

What is New Eden?
New Eden is the home of Heart iQ: a retreat centre on more than 50 acres of forest and fields in the Netherlands, about 90 minutes from Amsterdam, established by Christian Pankhurst in 2015. It was purpose-built for immersive group work rather than adapted from a hotel, and it hosts most Heart iQ retreats, from the accessible Love, Relationships & You weekend to the two-week facilitator immersion. Upcoming dates for everything held there are on the events calendar.
How can I experience the work?
The gentlest way in is the free Heart iQ Experience, a three-part replay series you watch from home. When you are ready to feel the work in a room, browse the upcoming retreats; Love, Relationships & You is the usual first step, and Heart iQ Mastery, the 90-day online programme, runs in cohorts through the year. Coaches and therapists who want to bring this work into their own practice can start with the Healing in Tribe facilitator immersion.
